Although having only joined the Rotary Club of Padstow in 2002, Keri had already served on many Rotary District Committees alongside her husband Allan Sweet, who is also a member of Padstow. These include as counsellors for the Youth Exchange Committee from 1996-1999. The opportunity to escort the outbound students to Switzerland in 1999 was a great thrill!
She and Allan then moved to the District RYPEN committee from 2000-2002.
Keri served as treasurer for the District ROYA committee from 2003-2004 and as Chairman for 2005.
2004-2005 saw Keri as Club Administration Director and President-Elect. In 2005-2006 Keri was honoured to serve her club as President in the 2nd year of its trialling of the District Leadership Plan and even more honoured when they surprised her with the awarding of a PHF at the club changeover.
In 2006-2007 Keri has been the District Youth Chairman, a role she will continue in 2007-2008.
Keri’s passion for Youth Programs began when she was a classroom teacher and with the participation of her own children in many of Rotary’s programs for youth. She and Allan have also been hosts for many exchange students. 1991 saw a career move that brought Keri from the classroom to manage her father’s engineering business along with her husband, Allan and her sister, Jennifer. Together they ran Novex Engineering, manufacturers of Nova-Strut, a mechanical and pipe support system. Novex has since been sold (2011), so that Keri and Allan can enjoy a well-deserved retirement.
Keri and Allan have 2 grown up children, Brenton and Carlie, son-in-law Matt and 3 delightful grandchildren: Tehya, Joel and Eva (all to Carlie and Matt).
In her spare time Keri loves playing with her granddaughter, live theatre, the fellowship of her church, and reading, all of which she has more time for now that she and Allan have retired. Together with Allan, Keri co-ordinated a Friendship Exchange to Houston, Texas, and then on to the Convention in New Orleans in 2011.
