Allan Sweet began his interest in community service in the Apex Club of Padstow-East Hills, serving in many areas including as president. After turning 40, Allan was out of Apex! However, soon after, in 1990, he was invited to join the Rotary Club of Padstow. Allan has served on most board positions and was elected President for 1994/95 during PDG Barry McConville's year as District Governor. Allan enjoyed the club’s support for the hosting of a very successful district conference in Wollongong during that year. He served as President again in 2000 after the untimely death of a very close friend who was President at the time.

Allan was honoured with a PHF by his club in 2001.

Other areas of service within Rotary include: Assistant Governor 2002/2003 and 2003/2004; GSE Team leader to District 5890, Houston, Texas in 2004.

Allan, as a result of his selection as GSE team leader, also served as a member of the GSE committee including time as Chairman.

Allan along wife Keri have also served as counsellors on the Rotary Youth Exchange program from 1996-1999, enjoying the great privilege of escorting outbound students to Switzerland in 1999. Together they then served on the RYPEN committee for 3 years with Allan serving as Treasurer for some of that time.

2006-2007 saw Allan as chairing the Rotary Fellowships Committee, in Vocational Service, a member of IYFR (International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians), and part of the team aimed at Membership development, especially in the formation of a new Rotary club.

Allan and fellow Padstow Rotarian Keri have 2 grown-up children, Brenton and Carlie (who have also participated in many Rotary Youth programs), son-in-law Matt and gorgeous grandchildren Tehya, Joel, and Eva (all Carlie and Matt's children).

Allan managed a family business, Novex Engineering, manufacturing a pipe and support system called Nova-Strut until its sale in 2011 and his retirement. His interests include playing golf, more golf, live theatre, boating and swimming. In 2011, together with Keri, Allan co-ordinated a Friendship Exchange to Houston, Texas, before going on to the RI Convention in New Orleans.
