Hospital project
Member Warren Bond spoke about the Kurlinegala Hospital project in the North West province of Sri Lanka this year.
- There was a very heavy military presence.
- There was a big move on to oust the Tamil Tigers from the area.
- The team installed a catheter lab from Victoria – shipping funded by Sri Lanka/Australia Society.
- Major hospital in area – 12 members of team – 1 technician from Phillips – many electricians.
- The Phillips technician was a volunteer, had joined Rotary and used his annual vacation for the trip.
- It took 10 days to complete installation.
- Container full of donations from DIK also sent over.
- Warren showed photos of scenery, Buddha’s, tea pickers, rice harvesters, elephants bathing in river, religious festival, and stilt walkers.
- The flights into and out of Sri Lanka arrive and leave between Midnight and 2am.
