Daniel
Daniel Leutthong (from Sudan), attended a meeting with Elizabeth (a fellow counsellor with Bev Pedder) to talk to the Club about his past, his present, and his ambitions for the future.
- Elizabeth gave an outline of Daniel’s life and showed a DVD on the refugee compound in Kenya where Daniel lived before his father smuggled him out and his mother escaped to Egypt. He was 5 years old.
- Daniel is now 20 years old and has not seen his mother or father for 15 years. He would dearly love to see his parents again and hope to do so in December.
- He is an outstanding young man and has worked hard at school and was offered a scholarship to go to St. Johns College at Sydney University but his marks were not quite good enough to get into the course so he had to relinquish the scholarship.
- Daniel is now studying at U.T.S for an Arts degree. He lives in a Christian hostel in the Villawood area. Daniel acts as a mentor for young Sudanese boys and he coaches the Sudanese Soccer Team.
- Daniel hopes to return to Sudan with a degree to help those who are still in the refugee camps.
- He has received several donations but still needs more. The cost of airfares to Sudan via Egypt is about $3,500 of which he has about $1,500 pledged. We asked Daniel to give us a detailed list of his expected costs and we will then see how we can help him.
