Ainslee and Rebecca
Rebecca Heywood (left) and Ainslee Walton (centre) attended the meeting to speak about RYLA. President Colin Duff (right) afterwards presented them with a boomerang and explained its significance, as well as presenting both with a certificate noting that a donation had been made to the Rotary Foundation in their names. Parts of Ainslee's and Rebecca's talks appear below.
Ainslee Walton
- I am 23 years old, and have just finished a law degree. I hope to be admitted to the Bar at the end of the year.
- A major reason for attending RYLA was to become effective in assisting the community.
- RYLA was inspirational. I found out about working at an animal shelter as I am passionate about animal rights.
- The fear factor was extreme with abseiling and rock-climbing, but it helped to build trust.
- The course gave me insights into myself.
- I am so lucky to have had the experience. I learnt a lot, including how to manage money, and about conflict resolution.
- Thank you everyone for the opportunity.
Rebecca Heywood
- I had doubts a bout going to RYLA.
- I am 25 years old, and have spent the last 4 years travelling around Europe.
- I wasn't the oldest one there.
- Everyone was enabled to learn and grow.
- The bonding as a group was terrific.
- The mix of age groups was very beneficial, and I would recommend that a wide range of ages be selected for future groups.
