Mikkel'd & Dined
Mikkel Liisberg, exchange student from Denmark, was guest speaker on a Danish night. The night's meal included Kogekunst med øl, Oksemørbrad, and the prosaically named Danish apple pie. Mikkel displayed a good selection of photos of his family, home, friends, and country. As he did so, he gave a running commentary, including the following:
- Mikkel's home town is the fourth biggest in Denmark.
- Denmark is 43,000 square kilometres in area, with a maximum width of 300k side to side.
- There are 1,490 islands which, together with the mainland, have a total coastline 7,500k long.
- Denmark is a very flat country. The highest peak is 170m.
- The houses have steep rooves to allow snow to slide off easily, and generally have more/better heating than houses in Australia, and fewer windows to stop heat loss.
- Mikkel's family has a summer house at the beach.
- His dad, Per, has a lot of Alfa Romeos. They are cheaper in Denmark than they are in Australia.
- Mikkel wants to become a pilot in the Air Force.
- His main hobby is playing bass.
- Mikkel thanked the Club for supporting the exchange program and allowing him to come to Australia.
- His biggest surprise finding about Australia is that the houses seem to be very cold.
- His family has hosted students from the USA, Canada, and Australia before, and his sister went to the USA.
