Liz's Presentation
Rebound Liz Ashton (left) gave a presentation to the Club on her time as an exchange student last year in the Czech Republic. At the conclusion, she presented President Keith Roffey with a banner from the Rotary Club of Jihlava in District 2240. Points from Liz's presentation follow:
- Brought a selection of books from the Czech Republic. The children's book is really good.
- Liz showed many pictures taken during her time in the Czech Republic, plus a map of the country.
- Prague, the capital, is a very beautiful city which is known as the city of spires.
- A statue of King Wenceslas (from the Christmas carol) is sited in Wenceslas Square.
- Liz went hiking in Slovakia in the summer with Klara's family (her host family).
- After going to the Czech Republic at the beginning of the year, finally went to language camp in September. Because she could speak the language reasonably well by that time, she helped the other students.
- Early in December, there is a tradition that the Devil, an angel, and St Nicholas go around giving out sweets and chocolates to good children, and taking the bad kids away.
- Liz travelled through other countries, including Austria, Italy, and France on road trips.
- Loved cross-country skiing and snowboarding.
- School was interesting. When a teacher entered the classroom, the students had to stand up and greet the teacher, then wait for permission to sit. The students didn't wear uniform.
- Went to Rotary meetings nearly every week.
- Thanked Rotary for the best experience of her life, which she will never forget.
