Closing

President Keith Roffey went to some trouble, in closing the meeting, to acknowledge everyone. His speech is set out below:

A lot of thought, effort and excitement have gone into the organisation of this evening and we have tried to make it a fitting celebration in honour of our past. We are delighted that you all have shared this with us, to our past members present I hope we have done you proud; you have certainly given us a great start and a sound benchmark to follow.

My thanks go to Joan Wells and the organising committee, we did it Joan. Considering Joan is going through a sad time at present and our thoughts are certainly with you we greatly appreciate your efforts.

For me being a Rotarian has enriched my life, as President I have been given so many opportunities and experiences that I would not have had and being President in this of all years makes it unique, but it has been an easy job, stand up all you Padstow Rotarians current and past members, give yourselves an applause you have done well.

I had a call this afternoon from a resident in our community with the offer of a wheelchair valued at approximately $4,500.00, this lady had read the editorial in the Express Newspaper was impressed by our work, yet another example of how we can all work together and offer assistance to those in need. I am deeply grateful to this donor and accepted her offer accordingly.

Again my thanks to all of you, Allan Sweet our MC, Trevor Withnall, he always does it his way. Barry McConville, the scribe, Barry Thompson, thanks Barry if there is a rock in Rotary Barry you’re it. Kevin Bouffler, David and Colin, Tony, Gaille (the cake), John Reilly, Gloria Tranby, Bruce Dunlop, Bob Mather, Gordon Taylor, Ken, Kaye and Peter, Keri, Veronica, past members for coming back and giving us the once over, our sponsors, the staff and management of this club, the TAP Group, do I name you all no, I don’t need to you are all an inspiration. And of course Joyce Barnard, what can I say Joyce, you stand for so much and it is wonderful to be able to acknowledge your contribution.

This is just the beginning Rotary has a long way to go and go we will, we have heard Colin talk about the future, he, I think has laid down a challenge to all Rotarians.

Go home tonight with this thought in mind, “Goodness is a special kind of truth and beauty. It is truth and beauty in human behaviour.

Good night and God Bless.
