PHF for Joyce
It was a delightful surprise for Joyce Barnard (second from right) when she was recognised for her efforts in support of Rotary over many years with a Paul Harris Fellowship (PHF). Joyce was escorted to the platform by Tony Blazek (left), and supported by her husband John Barnard (second from left) while President Keith Roffey made the presentation. President Keith's speech is reproduced below:
As this evening is very special to Padstow Rotarians we can’t let it go by without honouring a very special person to our club.
Most of you will know the meaning of being a Paul Harris Fellow, but for our guests, who may not, Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary with three of his associates and giving this honour recognises a person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives and mission of The Rotary Foundation to build world understanding and peace.
Joyce Barnard is this very special person so I now ask Tony Blazek to assist me and invite Joyce to share this stage with us.
Joyce and her husband John have retired from our club and moved to the Central Coast to enjoy a well earned rest but in spirit they are still with us and a meeting does not go past where either John or Joyce’s name is not mentioned. Joyce served Rotary and our ideals beyond measure giving up so much of her time and effort alongside John and indeed other club members in our endeavours to make a difference in this community, and make a difference Joyce does in her willingness and understanding in helping others.
Joyce is a caring person who lives her life unselfishly, always smiling and quietly going about the task of living and setting a wonderful example to us all in being just the good person that she is and we move closer to a more peaceful world today as Joyce becomes a Paul Harris Fellow.
Joyce, you were selected to receive this recognition because The Rotary Club of Padstow believes that your life exemplifies the humanitarian and educational objectives of The Rotary Foundation. We thank you for demonstrating in your life and vocation a commitment to helping persons in need here and around the world.
Therefore it gives me great pleasure to present to you on behalf of the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation, these three emblems of a Paul Harris Fellow: the certificate, a lapel pin and medallion. The certificate states that you have been named a Paul Harris Fellow, “in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations between peoples of the world”. We urge you to wear the Paul Harris Fellow pin to all Rotary events, as a symbol of your appreciation for and support of the programs of the Rotary Foundation. Please accept congratulations and sincere appreciation for your commitment to our common goals of world understanding and peace.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please congratulate and recognise the newest Paul Harris Fellow Joyce Barnard.
