Commissioner Moroney
Police Commissioner Ken Moroney had some inspiring and encouraging words to say in his address. The Commissioner said:
- he had listened open-mouthed to the talents of the young people tonight. If they are representative of the community, then the community is in very good hands.
- Thank you to the Rotary Club of Padstow for the cheque for Police Legacy. Its work covers 1300 widows, widowers, and legatees. Police Legacy exists to honour the memory of 273 police men and women who lost their lives in the course of their duty.
- The NSW Police Force is the 5th largest in the world.
- congratulations were due to both finalists, in that they had been endorsed to this level by their peers.
- police officers couldn’t do the job that they do without the support that comes from home. As such, the nominations tonight belonged as much to the wives for their support.
- Police Officer of the Year began as an idea in the Rotary Club of Fairfield, and has spread across the state, the country, and on into New Zealand.
