Opened by Mayor
After some inspiring words from Rotary President Keith Roffey (seen in background with young grandson), Padstow on Parade was officially opened by the Mayor of Bankstown, Tania Mihailuk.
President Keith's Speech
The Rotary Club of Padstow was chartered in 1957 so for almost fifty years our community has had an active Rotary Club doing their bit for humanity. Rotary stands for a lot of things but it is really all about humans helping humans in bettering mankind, globally I might add not just for our own districts.
One of the most important ideals in Rotary is that members must enjoy themselves; Fun, Fellowship, & Fundraising and that is what today is all about, today we want you, the members of our community to have fun because we the members of Padstow Rotary Club along side the members of the Padstow Chamber of Commerce have had a lot of fun in organising this day.
Fifty years ago Rotarians were local business people, all male of course, and those businessmen worked in serving the community, today we have progressed, our members are from all walks of life but more importantly we have the advantage of having female Rotarians and progressing yet further we now work with other organisations for the community so we have the Padstow Chamber of Commerce working with us in this wonderful concept of promoting local businesses with the profits from today going back into the community.
Every event like this has its supporters and we have enormous support and sponsorship from The Bankstown City Council, The Revesby Workers Club, The Padstow Chamber of Commerce, The Canterbury Bankstown Express, The Bankstown Canterbury Torch and Sydney Glass Pty Limited, these organisations along with many other groups and individual people make these events happen.
Thankyou to the organising committee, Colin Duff, Julie & Ken Harris, Georgene & David Edmunds, Ron Chan, Joan Wells, Warren & Sharon Bond, Bev & Terry Pedder, John Earls, Julie Brideson, Keri Sweet, Melinda Heywood and David Luff. Thankyou also indeed, to all those Rotary & Chamber of Commerce members and their partners who are here with us striving to make today a success.
