RYDA Presentation
Paul Reid, Youth Service Chair for Rotary District 9690, gave the Club a presentation on RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness).
Paul's presentation covered the following points:
- Paul has the task of getting RYDA underway in District 9690.
- In 2000, 500 students attended RYDA. In 2005, 14,000 attended.
- BOC is a major sponsor of the programme. BOC has paid 2 years salary for an administrator, plus a vehicle, in order to get RYDA rolled out across Australia.
- The programme is aimed at Year 11 students who have their learner's permits.
- RYDA uses associated professionals, such as police, in order to give students a fuller picture of road safety and other factors associated with driving.
- Sessions are currently held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre at Penrith. This facility has the required classrooms and a 2 kilometre long section of road.
- The program costs $2,000 per day to run. This covers the cost of the venue, lunches for participants, speakers, and the required car.
- Students are charged $15 to attend RYDA.
- 120 to 180 students attend each session.
