Joan Wells was one of five presenters on the Chicago Centennial Convention, including Kevin Bouffler, Barry McConville, Barry Thompson, and Trevor Withnall.

The City of Chicago, with its 3½ million inhabitants, welcomed 42,000 Rotarians to the Centennial Convention in June, 2005. The Convention was preceded by 2 days of pre-Convention activities, including items on Rotaract, RYLA, and Youth Exchange, among others. But a highlight of the Convention itself had to be the "100 Years of Rotary" song. Barry Thompson spoke with pride of his Club President ribbon sharing space on his name tag with his PDG and RI Past Director ribbons. Barry also noted that the Convention was planned by Australians, with Roger Climpson taking a laid-back approach to being the Master of Ceremonies, and both efforts were widely lauded by attending Rotarians.
