Asst Commissioner Clifford
The Commander of the Greater Metro Regional Command, Assistant Commissioner Denis Clifford, addressed the members and guests at the inaugural Police Officer of the Year award night. He thanked the Rotary Club of Padstow for the effort that had gone into setting up the award, and hoped that this would be the first of many years in which the award would be presented. The Assistant Commissioner also congratulated those who had been nominated for the award.
The Commander pointed out that the nominations were made by members of the Bankstown Local Area Command, so - while it was a community award - it was also a peer award.
In thanking the Club for the donation for Police Legacy, Assistant Commissioner Clifford spoke about the work of Police Legacy in looking after 1,084 families who had lost a serving police officer. He said that the cheque would assist them in a variety of ways, one of which was to provide scholarships for children in those families.
